This is the last week for Summer Reading programs. Please bring in your reading logs by July 21 to earn prizes and chances to win the grand prizes.
Adults and teens are reminded to notify the library of books read by July 21 to be entered to win a $50 gift card. Drawings for grand prizes will take place the week of July 24. There will be no children’s programming during the month of August. Thanks to everyone who participated in the “All Together Now” Summer Reading program.
The Book Challenge for July is to read a book set on a plane, train or ship. We have display of selections for you to choose from. Please contact the library when you complete the challenge and you may win a gift card from a local business.
Parents are reminded to enroll their children ages 0-5 in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at http://www.harlempubliclibrary.org or in person at the library. Children will receive a free book monthly until their fifth birthday! The Harlem Public Library is a local affiliate of this program. There is no cost to register as the program is sponsored by First Lady Susan Gianforte’s Treasure State Foundation.
Caroline Kepnes is the author of “For You and Only You.” This is the fourth book in the “You” series which is now on Netflix. Book seller Joe Goldberg is invited to join a writing fellowship at Harvard. There he meets Wonder Parish. Their love for literature draws them together; if only she would commit herself to the writing life. Wonder has a tendency to love, but Joe is a believer in the rule of fiction: If you want to write a book, you have to kill your darlings.
A new novel by William Landay is “All That Is Mine I Carry With Me.” Ten-year-old Miranda Larkin comes home from school in 1975 to find her mother, Jane, missing. Her mother’s purse is in the usual spot on the front hall. Although Jane’s husband, Dan, is a suspect no evidence is found linking him to the crime. Miranda and her two brothers are left to be raised by the man who may have murdered their mother. Two decades later Jane’s remains are uncovered and the investigation is reopened. The grown children are now forced to choose sides.
“The Trackers” is by Charles Frazier. During the Depression painter Val Welch has landed a New Deal assignment to create a mural that represents the area of Dawes, Wyoming, in the new post office. Wealthy art collector John Long and his wife Eve, have offered to host Welch at their ranch. Welch quickly finds himself enthralled by the couple’s intriguing lives. When Eve flees with an expensive painting, Long and Welch hit the road to track her down. Soon secrets are uncovered that could mean changes for all of them.
Other new titles include historical fiction novel “The Last Heir to Blackwood Library” by Hester Fox; “The Way of the Bear, “ a Leaphorn, Chee and Manuelito novel by Anne Hillerman; and “The Swimmers” by Julie Otsuka.
