Lions Look Sharp With the Post Season Right Around the Corner

The Chinook Lions Swim team was in Sidney, Montana July 8-9 and again turned in a fantastic effort. With just one meet in Fort Benton (July 15/16) before the Divisional Swim Meet is held in Chinook, July 22-23, teams are fine tuning their strokes to be ready for the post season.

The Lions had three High Point Trophy winners this week with Bryce Elliot capturing the honor in the Boys 13-14 age group and Dentin DePriest and Britton Elliot winning the Boys and Girls 15-19 age group. The Lions had 10 swimmers in all that won at least one individual event. The Lions also won both the 13-14 Mixed Medley and Mixed Freestyle Relay races as well as the 15-19 Mixed Medley Relay.

Bryce Elliot swept all three of his individual races, first winning the 13-14 Boys 200 Meter Individual Medley in 3:02.23. Elliot followed with a win in the 50 Meter Butterfly with a time of :34.55 and a win in the 200 Meter Freestyle in 2:24.65.

Dentin DePriest collected three individual wins as well to earn his High Point. DePriest got things started with a win in the 15-19 Boys 200 Meter Individual Medley, completing all four disciplines in 2:36.38. DePriest then won the 400 Meter Freestyle after completing the race in 5:06.69. DePriest completed his swim with a win in the 100 Meter Breaststroke in 1:18.24.

Britton Elliot was the Lions third High Point winner in Sidney. Britton first captured the 15-19 40 Meter Freestyle, touching the wall in :28.43 to win the event. She then followed with a win in the 100 Meter Freestyle, completing the four lengths of the pool in 1:05.69. Elliot completed her swim by capturing the 50 Meter Butterfly in :32.50 to remain undefeated for the weekend.

The Lions had a number of swimmers capturing individual gold but just falling short of earning High Point Honors. Sylvi Harwood had herself a great meet in Sidney. Harwood won the 8 and Under Girls 25 Meter Freestyle in :19.11 and followed with a win in the 50 Meter Freestyle in 45:06. Harwood added a third-place finish in the 25 Meter Backstroke completing the race in :27.65.

Brockton Elliot took home two individual first place wins in Sidney. Brockton first won the 15-19 Boys 50 Meter Butterfly in :29.18. Elliot then won the 100 Meter Butterfly in 1:10.33. Elliot began his swim with a second-place finish in the 200 Meter Individual Medley in 2:47.69. Kolton DePriest turned in a first-place effort in the 13-14 Boys 100 Meter Breaststroke, completing the race in 1:22.20. DePriest added a pair of third place finishes to his weekend, first in the 100 Meter Freestyle (1:06.14) and then the 200 Meter Freestyle (2:29.95).

Rachel Stephens had another solid effort in the pool in Sidney. Rachel began her swim with a second-place finish in the 13-14 Girls 200 Meter Freestyle, completing the race in 1:10.50. She then added another second in the 200 Meter Freestyle touching the wall in 2:32.66. Rachel finished with yet another second-place finish, this time in the 50 Meter Butterfly with a time of :33.31. Katie Tilleman swam her way to a first place in the 13-14 Girls 50 Meter Butterfly in :31.25. Katie added another first place in the 100 Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:14.68. Tilleman also earned a second-place finish in the 50 Meter Freestyle, touching the wall in :28.90.

Tyler Stephens had himself a spectacular swim in Sidney winning the 9-10 50 Meter Freestyle in :35.28. Tyler followed with a second-place finish in the 100 Meter Freestyle, completing the event in 1:25.76. Tyler concluded his swim with a third-place finish in the 50 Meter Backstroke (:52.43). Walter Schoen turned in another solid effort in the pool in Sidney. Schoen took home top honors in the 13-14 100 Meter backstroke, touching the wall in 1:19.91. Walter began his swim with a runner up finish in the 50 Meter Freestyle, completing the race in :28.12. Schoen followed with another second-place finish in the 100 Meter Freestyle, completing the event in 1:03.95.

The Chinook Lions will be hosting the Eastern Divisional Swim Meet July 22-23
