We've Got The County Covered
The Chinook Swim Team closed out another spectacular season. Chinook was sixth in the Class AA team results but were exceptional when taking points in consideration to number of Swimmers on the team. Chinook would have won class B and C as well. The Lions had two High Point Winners, Britton Elliot and Dentin DePriest. In addition, the Lions had several swimmers win Individual champions including Dentin DePriest, Kolton DePriest, Britton Elliot, Brockton Elliot, Bryce Elliot Rachel Stephens and Katie Tilleman.
The Lions certainly had success in the relays. Walter Schoen, Rachel Stephens, Kolton DePriest and Lori Mord swept both the 13-14 Mixed Freestyle Relay and the 13-14 Mixed Medley. The latter of which they establish a new Pool Record. The relay quartet of Harper Matkin, Parker Paulsen, Ashtyn DePriest and Sylvi Harwood posted a time of 1:35.64 in 8 & Under 100 Meter Freestyle to finish second in the event. The 15-19 Senior Boys 200 Meter Freestyle Relay Team of Brockton Elliot, Dentin DePriest, Coltor Matkin and Daniel Tilleman took home the Gold Medal with a time of 1:48.30. The 15-19 Senior Girls Relay Team of Ivey Lenz, Katie Tilleman, Britton Elliot and Clara Laird swam their way to a second-place finish in the 200 Meter Medley clocking in at 2:26.88.
Leading the way for the Lions at the State Swim Meet in Conrad was Dentin DePriest as he swept his three events in the 15-19 Division. DePriest had a stellar season once again excelling at his best events. Dentin got his swim started by capturing the 200 Meter Individual Medley touching the wall in 2:36.50. DePriest took top honors in the 100 Meter Breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:16.04. Dentin completed his swim with a comfortable in the 400 Meter Freestyle 4:54.33. Congrats Dentin on adding a High Point trophy from State to your collection.
Next up is Britton Elliot who swam her way to the 15-19 Senior Girls High Point. Britton got her state swim meet started with a win in the 50 Meter Freestyle. She has dominated this event for years it seems, in her swim at state this year she won the event with a time of :28.70. Elliot then swam the 100 Meter Freestyle in 1:05.41 to win her second Gold Medal. Britton completed her state swim with win in the 50 Meter Butterfly in :32.29. Congrats Britton on adding a High Point trophy from State to your collection.
Brockton Elliot has been consistent all season and was once again in Conrad. Brockton just fell short in the 15-19 senior boys 200 Meter Individual Medley falling to teammate Dentin DePriest finishing second in 2:45.08. Brockton then showed off his muscles first winning the 50 Meter Butterfly in :29.14 and the 100 Meter Butterfly in 1:09.35. Katie Tillman swam a solid race every time she dove in the pool. Katie started off with a tough swim in the (13-14) 50 Meter Freestyle to finish second with a time of :29.42. Tilleman regrouped to win the 100 Meter Backstroke in 1:18.70 and the 50 Meter Butterfly in :32.33.
Kolton DePriest and Bryce Elliot rocked the 13-14 Boys Division. Bryce took home a Gold Medal in the 200 Meter Individual Medley completing the tough test in 2:53.36. Bryce also took home a second place in the 200 Meter Freestyle finishing the race in 2:33.44. Bryce rounded out his state swim with third place finish in the 50 Meter Butterfly. Kolton first captured a Gold Medal in the 100 Meter Breaststroke touching the wall in 1:21.67. Next Kolton added a second-place finish in the 200 Meter Freestyle.
Rachel Stephens had a great swim in Conrad as well winning the 13-14 girls 200 Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:32.69. Stephens then captured a pair of Silver Medals, first she finished runner up in the 100 Meter Freestyle with a time of 1:09.63. Stephens then finished second in the 50 Meter Butterfly in :33.34 to complete her swim. Daniel Tilleman earned a pair of Silver Medals in Conrad. First Daniel finished second in the 15-19 Senior Boys 50 Meter Freestyle with a impressive time of :26.05. Next Daniel finished runner up in the 100 Meter Freestyle with a time of 1:00.67.
Sylvi Harwood has performed exceptionally well. Each time she swims she improves in some way. At just 6 years old Sylvi just complete her second state swim. Sylvi finished second in the 8 & Under girls 50 Meter Freestyle in :42.03. In addition, Sylvi would go home with three individual and one relay medals after earning third place finishes in the 25 Meter Freestyle and the 25 Meter Butterfly. Tyler Stephens has swum very hard this season and did so once again at state. Tyler garnered a Silver Medal in the 9-10 Boys 50 Meter Freestyle in :34.78. Stephens added another silver moments later when he swam the 100 Meter Freestyle in 1:17.95. Tyler added a sixth-place ribbon in the 50 Meter Backstroke.
The Lions depth goes deep. Walter Schoen turned in a fantastic swim garnering a third-place finish in both the 50 Meter and 100 Meter Freestyle while also picking up a second-place finish in the 100 Meter Backstroke completing the race in 1:21.83. Colter Matkin swam very well for the Lions finishing third in the 15-19 50 Meter Butterfly. Matkin added a fourth in 100 Meter Backstroke and fifth in the 50 Meter Freestyle. Ivey Lenz swam her way to a sixth-place finish in the 15-19 girls 100 Meter Butterfly. Len also finished ninth in the 100 Meter Backstroke.
In addition to all the previously mentioned swimmers who swam in the final swim of each event, these swimmers also took home ribbons and/or medals by either swimming in the consolation finals (7-12) or Relays. These fantastic swimmers are Cassidy Darlington, Calvin Frye, Ashtyn DePriest, Amanda Finley, Mariah Huravitch, Clara Laird, Gunner Lenz, Harper Matkin, Lori Mord, Maverick Skoyen, Colson Turner. With the summer swim season now complete, it's time to focus on the Junior/Senior High School Fall sports schedule. If you want to participate in Football, Cross Country or Volleyball you must have your physical done prior to first practice. All forms can be picked up at the CHS front office.
