We've Got The County Covered
About 45 local seniors enjoyed a picnic in the park last Tuesday hosted by the Chinook Senior Center. A first of its kind event held away from the Center was well received and attended by about 45 seniors. The weather and mosquitoes (the latter eliminated with some help from the local sprayers) cooperated.
The menu was fried chicken, potato salad and slaw. The main meal was complimented with a chocolate pudding dessert and plenty of cold drinks to keep the guests hydrated.
The last couple of weeks of has been a time for trying some new approaches to programming at meal time. Earlier a group sharing cowboy poetry entertained during lunch. The program even included some 'real cowboy stories' by local Center volunteer and well-known retired cowboy Art Kleinjan. It was during that period that a "guest chef" program treated Center diners to some specialty dishes prepared by locals. One of those day, when Ted Powell and Doug Mitchell teamed up for a noon meal, nearly 100 people came to the Center for lunch.
The recent fried chicken dinner and outdoor meal was a favorite, not only of the guests who dined at Sweet Park, but also of those who received delivered and carry out meals for the day. All totaled about 70 people had the summer treat without heating up their own kitchens.
