Lady Beeters show depth at the net at Malta tournament

While Sugarbeeters took second among the six teams in the varsity competition, the school's JV and C squads each went 2-0 for the day.

Chinook's three teams each kicked the year off with wins to start their season the day before.

"We were at Rocky Boy (North Stars) on Friday," Head Coach Paula Moyneaux said. "All three squads won, 3-0."

After going 2-0 in pool play, the varsity 1-1 in the single-elimination tournament play, to earn second-place honors in the six-team field.

The Lady 'Beeters defeated the Poplar Indians and Harlem Wildcats in straight sets to finish atop Pool B and earn a top seed going into the tournament round.

They topped Poplar again, after the Indians downed Malta to advance to the semi-finals. They went directly from that win into the championship match, where they came up short against the Fairview Warriors.

Molyneaux said she was pleased with her charges' efforts at all levels.

"Our JV was 2-0, defeating North Country and Wolf Point." she said. "The C squad also went 2-0, beating Malta C and Glasgow C teams."

The volleyball squads will compete in Glasgow beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, then host Conrad on Friday, also beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday will be a big day for the orange and black as they host their own invitational tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The following Friday, Sept. 8, they will host Shelby beginning at 4:15 p.m., before heading to Choteau for a duel slated to begin at 4:15, Saturday, Sept. 9.
