We've Got The County Covered
Harlem’s varsity netters were a little slow getting out of the gate in their first game of the year, but they picked up their game as the Malta tournament continued.
The Lady ‘Cats never posed a serious threat as they fell 10-25 to Chinook in their first game. The second game was a completely different story as the lead bounced back and forth among the in-county rivals until before the Sugarbeeters reeled off the last eight points to take the second game 25-17 and the match.
About three-quarters of an hour later, the Wildcats’ claws came out as they swept past the Poplar Indians to take second place in their pool.
Harlem downed Rocky Boy in its first in the single-elimination round for all the marbles. Their win earned them a berth in the semi-final round against eventual champion Fairview Warriors.
“We did start sluggish, but as a whole we came together and battled throughout the day,” head coach Kim Faulkinbeery said. “We will be working on our blocking and defensive transitioning.”
Faulkinberry added that this is something of rebuilding year.
“We are returning only four girls with varsity experience, so I am happy with what we did in Malta,” she said.
The ‘Cats will host the Wolf Point Wolves at 4 p.m. Thursday, before traveling to Poplar for games beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and then on to Fairview for games beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
