We've Got The County Covered

Drool in the pool a doggone good time!

Now in its second season, the Drool in the Pool event held this Labor Day weekend seems to be well on its way to becoming an end of the year tradition at the Chinook City Pool. Organizers said 19 dogs were registered for the event with some even willing to swim in the pool, though not all. P.A.W.S was there showcasing a couple of cute adoptable pups. The doggie theme was complemented by pronto pups cooked and served onsite by the Chinook Lions Club.

It may be a truism that "you cannot lead all dogs to water (to get in it)." The all-star water dog was a large Golden Doodle owned by Jill and Dirk Paulson. Jill said, "This is Sippy's second year at the event and she loves it." It only took a thrown tennis ball and Sippy was leaping to retrieve it from the pool. Jill had to give Sippy a tug on the collar to get the dripping dog out of the water and then take a jump back before Sippy gave an energetic shake to dry herself.

Levi Hofeldt brought one of his farm dogs that didn't take well to the pool. Shaking his head, Levi said, "Out on the farm this dog will jump in any pool or puddle of water, no matter how nasty. I think the clear water and being able to see the bottom of the pool is scary." There is no explaining doggie behavior.

The weather for the evening was pleasant and dog owners visited while the dogs chased each other around the pool. A couple of times the lifeguard had to yell, "walk, don't run." Apparently most dogs also don't take well to being calm when there are other dogs running and playing around the edges of the pool. The whole event had definitely gone to the dogs. And, well, that was the purpose of Drool in the Pool.
