Wildcats run well at Kalispell meet

All six harriers figured in Harlem Wildcat’s high finish at the 36-team meet Friday just outside of Kalispell.

The meet featured numerous Class AA and A schools from around the state, a few of which were among the 14 schools unable to keep up with ‘Cats.

Leading the team to its 22nd-place finish was freshman Branlin Foote, who turned in a quality time of 17:26.36 over the 3.1-mile course.

Finishing in 130th place with a time of 19:42.79 was freshman Gregory Gardipee, followed by sophomore Delane LaMere in 21:14.61. Freshman Lathan Blackwolf finished in 188th place with a time of 23:00.19, or a per mile pace of 7:25.

Senior Moses Lawrence finished in 191st place in a time of 23:43.38. Lawrence’s fifth-place finish made him the final official member of the team. At that point, the ‘Cats would have had to share the 22nd spot with Stevensville due to a tied score.

That’s where senior Kelbi Bigby’s finish in 193 place comes into play. Bigby’s finish and time of 25:25.69 were used as a tie breaker to give the ‘Cats sole possession of 22nd place.

Class A Stevensville settled into sole possession of 23rd place.

The team’s average time among the six runners was a very respectable 21:01.47.

Desiree Smith was the lone entry from Harlem in the junior varsity race, finishing 113 in a time of 31:32.88.

Shayne Stiffarm was the only Wildcat entered in the junior varsity portion of the race. He finished in 26:14.76

Harlem did not compete in the Polson meet on Saturday as scheduled.

The Wildcats will run in Cut Bank on Friday and in the Havre Invitational Meet at the Prairie Farms Golf Course on Saturday. Start time in Havre is 10 a.m.
