Harlem ALC Works to Help Those In Need

For the past year folks at the Harlem ALC have been working on projects that will make life a little easier for someone, we don't know who, but there are many around the world who need our gifts and prayers.

In the process of moving, Audrey Parnell found that her quilt stash was too much to deal with, and donated it to the World Relief quilters at the Lutheran Church. From those wonderful fabrics, and from our own stashes, 28 quilts were created. These quilts are distributed, one to a family, in poor nations maybe in Africa, South America or maybe in refugee camps in a war zone. Besides the quilts, Personal Care Kits, which includes 2 bars of soap, comb, nail clipper, toothbrush, and a bath towel, were assembled and sent too, all 20 of them.

Public education is a given to us in our good old USA, this is not so in other places like Honduras for example, where families struggle to put food on the table. We want to help a few of them too, so we completed 10 of these to.

Lastly, the Baby Care kits were formed by us and some mother will get a couple receiving blankets, 2 sleepers, soap, 2 undershirts, a sweater, a little towel, and to complete this fine assembly four, yes only four, cloth diapers and 2 pins. We made 11 of those.

This sounds like not much in quantity but lots of love and kind prayers are spent too. Everyone in our church helped, collecting items, constructing, packing, and finally blessing them.

If anyone would like information about Lutheran World Relief contact me, Ethel Siemens, I do believe, and I have been doing this long enough to know, we are doing Gods work with our hands.
