We've Got The County Covered
The Chinook Sugarbeeters were in Shelby this past weekend for the Coyote Tip-Off Preseason Tournament. The 'Beeter girls first took on the Eureka Lions on Friday morning and came away with a comfortable 78-28 win. On Saturday afternoon, they faced an old foe from the past in the Malta M-ettes and again came away with a big win, 65-32. With the weekend sweep, the 'Beeters improved to 3-0 on the young season.
The 'Beeters wasted little time in taking charge of their contest with the Eureka Lions Friday morning. Senior Hallie Neibauer scored the game's first two points just nineteen seconds into the contest and the 'Beeters never looked back. Neibauer followed with a steal and score, junior Alexus Seymour converted a drive into points and Chinook quickly held a 6-0 lead. Eureka cut the 'Beeter lead to 7-4 before senior Jenna Liddle got in the scoring column for a 9-4 'Beeter advantage.
Liddle added a pair from the charity strip with 4:18 left in the opening quarter to push the 'Beeter lead to double digits, 15-4. The Lions strung together a few offensive sets, cutting the 'Beeter lead to 17-11. Chinook would close out the first quarter up 24-12. The Lions connected from down town, but Chinook responded with two free throws from Seymour and a score from junior Addison Olsen. Sophomore Brooke Fetter came up with a nice steal and scored and suddenly the 'Beeter advantage swelled to 34-19.
Chinook finished up the first half getting five points from junior Hannah Schoen including an old-fashioned three-point play to put the 'Beeters up 39-29. Junior Gracie Skoyen scored inside and then again off an offensive rebound, leading to the 'Beeters taking a 47-21 lead into the halftime locker room. Neibauer began the third quarter going one for two from the charity stripe to start the 'Beeter offense. Schoen scored inside off a nice pass from Neibauer for a 50-21 'Beeter lead.
Neibauer converted an and one and then Seymour hit Neibauer with a nice pass for another bucket, extending the 'Beeter lead to 40, 61-21. Chinook slowed things way down in the fourth quarter, scoring eight with a running clock. When the final horn sounded, it was Chinook securing a 78-28 win over the Eureka Lions. Neibauer led the 'Beeter attack with 27 in the contest. Seymour finished with 17 while Schoen added 15 to the 'Beeter total.
Saturday afternoon, the 'Beeters renewed an old rivalry with the Malta M-ettes. Seymour scored the first points of the contest, going 3-4 from the charity stripe as both teams started a bit slow. Neibauer knocked down a free throw to put Chinook up 4-0 with 3:47 left in the opening stanza. Seymour ignited the 'Beeter attack with a three-point bomb. Neibauer buried a pair from the free throw line. Fetter drove the lane for a layup and Neibauer scored going to the basket to put the 'Beeters up 15-0 before the M-ettes would get on the board. Fetter knocked down a long ball to end the first with Chinook holding a 20-5 advantage.
Neibauer connected from beyond the arc off a nice assist from Seymour and then Neibauer returned the favor, hitting Seymour for another three, giving the 'Beeters 35-11 lead with :57 left in the half. Schoen began the third quarter with a nice pass to Olsen for a bucket. Moments later, Olsen connected with Seymour for an easy score and Neibauer followed with a long two-point bucket to extend the 'Beeter lead to 43-19 with four minutes to go in the third quarter.
Neibauer scored an and one to keep the momentum going. Sophomore Neva Lowe found Liddle for a bucket to give the 'Beeters a 51-24 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Chinook was efficient down the stretch. Olsen connected from distance off an assist from Seymour. Schoen went off the glass from the elbow for another and Fetter fed Olsen for an easy bucket providing the final points of a 65-32 'Beeter win. Neibauer again led the 'Beeter effort, scoring 26 on the night. Seymour added 17 in the win and Fetter scored seven.
Chinook will return to the court on Saturday for their home and District 1B opener against the Shelby Coyotes. They will head to Fort Benton on December 19 to take on the Longhorns before returning home on December 20 to face the Rocky Boy Stars.
