We've Got The County Covered
The Turner Tornado girls took part in their second pre-season tournament in as many weeks this past Friday and Saturday in Harlowton. Friday the girls took on the host Harlowton Engineers, falling 38-37. Saturday they were back on the court to face the Jordan Mustangs. Turner fell to the Mustangs.
Sophomore Bridget Reed went two for two from the charity stripe and scored four, while senior Hannah Richman added four of her own early on, but it was Harlowton that had the lead at the end of one. The teams traded baskets to start the second. The Refiners held a 15-12 lead over the Tornadoes at the 4:27 mark of the second quarter. With time running down in the first half, freshman Holly Grabofsky found Richman for a bucket and an 18-16 Turner lead.
Reed started the scoring in the third quarter, converting one of two from the charity strip to push the lead to three, 19-16. The lead ballooned to six, 22-16, after freshman Ali Doyle scored off a nice pass from sophomore Meridian Snider. Reed made a nice steal late in the third quarter and got the ball to Holly Grabofsky for a bucket and a 29-21 Turner lead.
The Refiners knocked down a couple of free throws to trim the Turner lead to four, 29-25 midway through the fourth. Turner was in foul trouble late with Doyle and Richman both fouling out. Harlowton got hot from distance, connecting twice while mixing in a layup to retake the lead 38-37 with 0:59 left on the game clock. Turner was unable to get a shot to fall with time winding down and fell 38-37 to the Refiners. Chamberlain and Reed each scored eight to lead the Tornado attack.
Saturday afternoon, the Tornadoes took on the Shepherd Mustangs looking to rebound from Friday night's heartbreaker. The Mustangs took an early 3-0 before Snider evened the score with a three ball off a nice pass from Doyle. Hannah Richman then found Abby Grabofsky for a three-point bucket of her own to double up the Mustangs 6-3. Shepherd rallied to take a 9-6 lead only to see Cassidy Grabofsky drain another from distance to tie the game at 9-9. Natalie Richman scored late in the quarter off the offensive glass, but it was Shepherd holding a 14-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Reed started the scoring with a nice take to the basket to cut the score to 14-13 in favor of the Mustangs. The Mustangs scored four straight to take an 18-13 lead with 6:08 left in the half, leading to a Turner timeout. Snider scored inside off a nice pass from Abby Grabofsky to end the scoring drought, making the score 22-15 in front of the Mustangs. Natalie Richman hit from fifteen and the Tornadoes were back within six, 23-17.
The teams traded baskets early to start the third quarter with the Mustangs leading 26-21 at the four-minute mark. Cassidy Grabofsky grabbed her own rebound and scored to bring Turner within six. The Mustangs extended their lead to 12, 35-23 heading into the fourth quarter. The Mustangs scored the first six points of the fourth before Natalie Richman connected on a pair of free throws to lead 41-25. Shepherd went on to secure a 46-35 win over the Tornadoes.
