Turner Boys Fall to Sheridan & Secure win against Jordan 71-60

The Turner Tornadoes headed south this past weekend to take part in another tip-off tournament. The community of Harlowton hosted the two-day event. On Friday evening, the Tornadoes took on the Sheridan Mustangs and were defeated 69-49. Saturday the boys faced the Jordan Mustangs and secured a 71-60 win to even their record at 2-2.

The Turner Tornadoes got a huge effort from senior Ryan Doyle in the first quarter with ten points in the stanza, including going four for four from the charity strip, helping the Tornadoes to take an 18-16 lead into the second quarter. Sheridan rallied in the second to lead by four heading into intermission. Turner got a three point bucket from junior Carson Maloney and seven points from junior Caleb Zellmer, including a three ball.

Turner trailed 32-28 to start the third quarter and were looking to get off to a fast start coming out of halftime. Zellmer got to the rim to make the score 35-30 only to see the Lions answer right back on the other end. Moments later, Billmayer knocked down a five-footer to bring Turner within six, 38-32. Maloney scored inside off a nice feed from Billmayer and then found Zellmer in the paint for an easy bucket, sending the teams to the fourth quarter with Sheridan on top 45-38.

The Lions scored nine quick points to extend the Lions lead to 54-38. Doyle ended the run with a nice move to the basket. Turnovers plagued the Tornadoes in the fourth, leading to an easy layup and a 57-40 lead for the Lions. Doyle hit freshman Ty Beck for a twelve footer on the baseline and knocked down a free throw to cut the deficit to 57-44. Sheridan was too much down the stretch and pushed the lead to 62-46 with 3:23 left in the contest. In the end, the Lions earned a 69-49 win over the Tornadoes.

Saturday, Turner faced the Jordan Mustangs and played well from start to finish. Freshman Tate Beck dropped a pair from distance and Zellmer scored seven, helping Turner take a 17-15 lead after eight minutes. Billmayer and Doyle each connected from distance and combined for 16 points in quarter two, giving Turner a 35-32 lead at the break.

Four of Turner's five third quarter baskets were from distance with Doyle responsible for two. Billmayer and Zellmer each tallied one of their own to power Turner to a 49-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter of action. The Tornadoes finished strong, scoring 22 points down the stretch with Doyle accounting for ten. The defense limited the Mustangs to just 13 points in the stanza, paving the way for a 71-60 Turner victory over Jordan.
