Harlem Library

The Harlem Library Board of Trustees will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, January 24, 4:30 P.M. in the library meeting room. The agenda is posted on our website at http://www.harlempubliclibrary.org.

The January Book Challenge is to read a book with a three-word title. You may find a selection on display at the library or choose your own book that fits the challenge. When you have completed the book contact the library so your name may be entered in the drawing to win a gift card from a local business.

The library staff and the Friends of the Library are excited to announce “Socializing Seniors!” Each week on Wednesday from 1:00 -3:00 P.M. (beginning January 24) senior citizens are invited to come to the library to meet and socialize in the meeting room. This is a time to visit, have coffee, play cards or other games, do crafts, etc. It is up to those who come to decide how to spend their time together. The library will provide the coffee….you provide the fun! Pass the word and invite your friends.

The 2nd Annual “Love Chocolate….Love Your Library!” event will be held Monday, February 12 from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Vendors are invited to sell their chocolate confections in the meeting room. There will be room for only six vendors so reserve your table now. Chocolate temptations will be available for tasting . Once again will we have a cake decorating contest using a Valentine or Love Your Library theme with the winner chosen by popular vote. There will be a chocolate fondue with delectable dipping! We need people to assist with the event: bakers of chocolate cookies, bars or mini cupcakes; donations of items for the chocolate fondue; and volunteers to help during the event. If you would like more information or are willing to help please contact the library at 406-353-2712 or message us on Facebook.

During these cold and snowy days of winter the library is a warm and friendly place to be. Remember we have a great play space for children, a puzzle table, magazines and newspapers in the reading room and free wi-fi!

The library has a table with free resources if you have a small business or are thinking about starting one.

During 2024 we will feature two children’s books each week in the library column. “Winter is Here” is a picture book written by Kevin Henkes and illustrated by Laura Dronzek. With delightful illustrations this book has simple but meaningful language that showcases all aspects of winter.

A juvenile fiction chapter book is “Heroes of the Water Monster” by Brian Young, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. Edward is now living with his dad’s girlfriend and her son, Nathan, who is turning over his responsibility to guard the water monster to Edward. But Edward has a lot to learn in his new role.

New titles to pick up this week include “The Spy” by Tess Gerritsen, “The Manor House” by Gilly Macmillan, “Dirty Thirty” by Janet Evanovich and

“Tom Clancy Command and Control” by Marc Cameron.

Two science fiction novels are “The Olympian Affair” by Jim Butcher and “Sister of Starlit Seas” by Terry Brooks.

Tracie Peterson’s new Jewels of Kalispell series begins with “The Heart’s Choice.” Danielle Steel’s latest novel is “The Ball at Versailles.”
