Lady Cats fall to Glasgow and Malta

The Harlem Lady Cats began the week with a 2B contest against the Glasgow Scotties where they fell 54-33. Saturday back home, they faced a stiff test in district 2B foe, Malta, where they fell 70-39.

Friday in Glasgow, the Lady Cats got three balls from freshman Maddy Mount and junior

Raelynne Briere, while also getting buckets from junior Aaraya Mount and Senior Tova Anderson, who accounted for the teams 10 first quarter points while the defense gave up 13 heading into the second quarter. Sophomore Gracie Sanchez and senior Jayden Blackcrow scored two three-point buckets and all six of the Lady Cats' second quarter points. Meanwhile, the Scotties scored 16 second quarter points, sending the teams into the break with the Scotties up 29-16.

The Lady Cats picked it up a bit in the third quarter, getting a triple from senior Emma Billmayer and five points from Briere. Aaraya Mount and sophomore Lacia Walls each scored a bucket, giving the Lady Cats 12 for the frame while holding the Scotties to just seven in the quarter, sending the teams to the fourth quarter with Glasgow leading 36-28. The Lady Cats ran out of gas in the final quarter, getting outscored by the Scotties 20-5, giving the Scotties a 56-33 victory. Briere led the Lady Cats with eight points on the night.

On Saturday, the Lady Cats were at home and faced a difficult test with the M-ettes. The Lady Cats didn't get off to the start that they wanted, scoring just 1 free throw off the hands of Walls while giving up 21 to the M-ettes. In the second quarter, the Lady Cats picked up 5 points off the hands of Billmayer while also getting a bucket from Briere, tallying just seven points in the frame to Malta's 17. Malta led 38-8 to start the third quarter. The Lady Cats' offense scored twelve points in the third quarter with five coming from Aaraya Mount. In the meantime, Malta scored 17 to extend their lead, 54-20.

The M-ettes maintained control down the stretch and secured a 70-30 win over the Lady Cats. Leading the way for Harlem was Billmayer with 12 points and Aaraya Mount scoring eight. The Lady Cats will play host to the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds on Friday, January 26. The following night, they will host the Poplar Indians.
