Turner falls to Chester/JI and Big Sandy

The Turner girls traveled west on Friday, January 19, where they fell to the Chester Joplin Inverness Hawks 51-30. On Saturday, January 20th, the Turner Tornadoes welcomed the Big Sandy Pioneers to town. Big Sandy got off to a quick early start and never looked back in a 58-43 win.

On Friday night, the girls made the trip west to take on the Chester Joplin Inverness Hawks. The Hawks started fast, getting 14 points right out of the gate, while the Tornadoes managed just six from Ali Doyle and Bridgette Reed. The second quarter went much better with Reed scoring four and Abby Grabofsky two in the frame. The Hawks offense slowed down a bit, managing just eight points for the half, sending the teams to the locker room with Chester holding a 22-12 halftime lead.

The Tornadoes came out strong to start the third quarter, getting six points from Reed while Meridian Snider added a triple. The Turner defense allowed seventeen points to the Hawks as Chester/JI opened up a 39-21 lead entering the fourth quarter. Coming down the stretch, Turner managed just nine points while the Hawks scored 12 more to secure a 51-30 win over the Tornadoes. Leading the way for the Tornadoes was Bridgette Reed with 13 points and Meridian Snider added six on the night.

On Saturday, the Tornadoes welcomed the Big Sandy Pioneers to town. The Pioneers got off to a quick start with five players finding the scoring column while Brooke Reed tallied 4 points in the opening stanza with Hannah Richman adding two for the Tornadoes. The teams entered the second quarter with the Pioneers holding a 15-6 advantage. The Tornadoes played much better in the second quarter getting six more points from Reed and 4 more from Natalie Richman, which turned into a 16 point Turner second quarter. The defense stood up and held the Pioneers to just 9 points in the stanza, sending the teams into the locker room with Big Sandy leading 24-22.

Coming out to start the second half, the Tornadoes got six points from Abby Grabofsky and four more from Natalie Richman for 11 Tornado points in the third quarter, while the defense gave up 15 to the Pioneers.

Trailing 39-33, the team looked to finish strong in the fourth quarter. The Tornadoes got baskets from three different players, including Natalie Richman with six points. Big Sandy scored 19 in the fourth quarter, earning them to a 58-43 win over the Tornadoes. Leading the way for the Tornadoes was Natalie Richman with 14 points. Bridgette Reed contributed 12 points to the Tornadoes' total.

Turner will return to the court on Saturday, January 27 against North Country and will host Box Elder on Friday, February 2nd.
