We've Got The County Covered

Blaine County Museum Memo

February is Black History Month, and the museum will be hosting Chinook’s Austin Haney to give us a special presentation on the Buffalo Soldiers in Montana. The Buffalo Soldiers were a United States Army Regiment that primarily comprised of African Americans. Please join us for “No Better Troops in Service: Buffalo Soldiers in Montana” on February 17th at 12:00pm, here at the Museum. This is a free event open to the public.

Fort Belknap hosted their Mid-Winter fair last week. The museum set up an outreach table and sold some of our bookstore items. Samantha was able to discuss programs, exhibits, and events with over 60 attendees of the fair. The outreach was a success, and the museum looks forward to attending the Mid-winter Fair next year.

Rod Benson of Harlem, Montana came down to the senior center on Wednesday the 7th to discuss the geology of North Central Montana. Beson was the 4th speaker participating in our Off-Season Speaker Season. There were 46 people in attendance and was an overall hit. This was our last speaker in the series, as Carl Davis will be rescheduled for a later date, due to a last-minute scheduling conflict. We would like to thank everyone who has been attending these programs. Your support allows us to continue to host these events and bring educational programing to the community. Please continue to read the paper and follow us on Facebook for more information on upcoming events.

“Dandy Cowboy”, our exhibit on 120 years of Rodeo in Blaine County, will be up until the end of the month. In early March, we will have a new exhibit on display. “Briskly Venture, Briskly Roam: The Life and Legend of Yellowstone Kelly”, on loan from the Western Heritage Center in Billings. This new exhibit will focus on the chronicles of Yellowstone Kelly’s life and his importance to Montana History.
