Chinook High School to Host Prom This Weekend

Scheduled for this Saturday, March 23, the Chinook High School Prom will be hosted by the junior class. For this annual affair, the Class of 2026 has selected Pandora as its theme. The event begins with pictures in the high school shop at 5:30 p.m., Grand March will take place at 6:30 p.m., and a prime rib dinner in the concessions area will follow. Sign-ups for these events have been taking place all week in the high school office.

Fliers for the event greeted students on Monday morning, March 11, and representatives from Cavaliers were at the school to take measurements for tuxedos on that day as well. March 11 is often regarded as National Promposal Day. That’s the day for high school students across North America to craft their unique invitations to the event of the year, asking, “Will you go to prom with me?”

Hannah Schoen, President of the Junior Class, reports that Pandora came to mind as a theme “because we are a bright class and love incorporating [color] into our events. We are looking to do a bioluminescent neon jungle.” Given that theme, prom’s color scheme will include a lot of blues, greens, and purples all accented with pink: “We will have a ton of leaves and jungle flowers and a tunnel archway that will be really cool,” explained Schoen.

Schoen expressed further excitement about the upcoming prom by adding: “This year’s prom is hopefully going to have lots of engagement and people who stay the whole night. We are having Dylan Surber DJ prom, as he has been known to have a musical ear. The prime rib dinner is just for prom attendees, and it will be served out of the cafeteria by Viki Hofeldt. The community is very much encouraged to attend Grand March, which will start at 6:30!”

As is typical with planning a big event, the class has experienced some challenges. “Throughout the year, we have struggled with organizing and setting certain plans. We have always had a ton of good ideas but have struggled to put them into action, so we are hoping to do that this year,” Schoen explained.
