We've Got The County Covered
Jack Edward Upshaw was born on October 2, 1938, in Chinook, Montana to Lillian Nelson Upshaw and Oscar Upshaw. He passed away on December 30, 2023, in Long Beach, California. Jack grew up in Chinook and graduated from Chinook High School in 1956. He spent his junior year of high school in Washington, DC. where he was a page for Senator Mike Mansfield. He went on to graduate from the University of Montana. Jack spent his adult life as an educator in both social studies and drama. He was a lifelong Democrat and loved discussing politics. He also had a love for Shakespeare and was involved in acting, directing, and attending Shakespeare festivals and plays. He traveled to England several times to visit Shakespeare’s birthplace. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother Joe, grandparents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his sister-in-law Jan Bean-Upshaw and several cousins. Jack loved life. He was a prolific corresponder, sending post cards to family and friends from all his adventures. Whenever he appeared on our doorsteps, we knew that laughter and lively conversation would follow. A graveside service will be held in early summer in the Chinook Kuper Cemetery. It is only appropriate to end Jack’s obituary with a quote from Shakespeare, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts.” Jack’s many parts as a beloved son, brother, cousin, friend, and teacher will be remembered by those who love him.
