Fifth Graders Will Host Annual Wax Museum

On Thursday, April 11, at 2:15 p.m., the fifth graders at Meadowlark Elementary School will be hosting their Wax Museum under the direction of Mrs. Lesa MacLeod. The public is invited to attend.

The wax museum is a culmination of a quarter-long project conducted by the fifth graders. These students are required to research a person in history and write a biographical essay based on that person’s life. Additionally, students write a two-three minute speech in which they share important details about the life and accomplishments of the person they are representing.

As described by Mrs. MacLeod, “The speeches will be delivered at the beginning of the wax museum and are in first person as the student will be in character as the person for the performance. They will then become a wax figure and stand before a door sized backdrop that they created with pictures, captions, and information about their person. This project covers many cross-curricular standards, including ELA, Reading, and Social Studies standards.”

This year’s fifth graders have chosen a broad spectrum of characters to research and reenact:

• Conner Bowles Galileo Galilei

• Jeramiah Lodgepole George Washington

• Teagan Britt Betsy Ross

• Gauge Scovel Thomas Edison

• Maysen Olson Annie Oakley

• Norah Zellmer Lizzie Arlington

• Mariah Huravitch Jeannette Rankin

• Claire Buck Amelia Earhart

• Callen Alisch Desmond Doss

• Janna Snedigar Loretta Lynn

• Alexis Elias Dolly Parton

• Pepper Harwood Sally Ride

• Laurin Davies Sarah Palin

• Tyson Nissen Trevor Brazile

• Hadley Wicks Jackie Crawford

• Hadley Hofeldt Amberley Snyder

• Avie Alisch Lainey Wilson

• Ashtyn DePriest Kelsea Ballerini

• Ayden Kuhnhenn Patrick Mahomes

• Cassidy Liddle Angel Reese

About the project, Mrs. MacLeod added: “The students usually are very engaged in the project as they are allowed to research a person of interest to them. It is a lot of work, however!”
