May in Mental Health Awareness Month and our Book Challenge this month is to read a book about mental health, either fiction or nonfiction. If you have completed April’s Book Challenge be sure to notify the library to have your name entered to win a gift certificate from a local business.

Thanks to all of you who have made donations to the library recently. If you have gifted us with books, Summer Reading items, supplies, or monetary donations we appreciate you and your support of the library.

Summer Reading will begin soon! We invite everyone to take part in “Adventures Begin at Your Library!” The kick off will be a Summer Reading Costume Party for everyone on Monday, May 20 from 4:00 to 6:30 P.M. Mark your calendars now for this fun evening with activities, food, and opportunities to register for the Summer Reading program.

The Book Club has finished for the year and will resume in the fall.

The Friends of the Library Executive Board meeting has been rescheduled for May 14, 4:30 P.M.

We are happy to report there are 83 children, ages 0-5, in Blaine County who are receiving a free book each month from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. If you have a child in your family in this age category, please register them at http://www.imaginationlibrary.org or stop by the library for a paper registration form.

Get your summer outdoor activities off to a great start with two new books in the Montana Collection. “100 Classic Hikes in Montana” is by Douglas Larain. This work includes routes from short day hikes to challenging multiday backcountry trips with detailed route descriptions. “Paddling Montana: A Guide to the State’s Best Paddling Routes” is by Kit Fischer. This book features over 30 river trips for avid paddlers, floaters, and anglers.

Two new historical fiction novels include “The Underground Library” by Jennifer Ryan. When the Blitz threatens the heart of a London neighborhood, three young women must come together to save the community’s beloved library. Kate Quinn and Janie Chang co-authored “The Phoenix Crown.” Set in San Francisco in 1906 Gemma, a soprano whose career need rekindling and Suling, a Chinatown embroideress, who are both drawn into the world of Henry Thornton. His collection of antiques includes the Phoenix Crown, a legendary relic of Beijing’s Summer Palace.

Suspense novels ready for check out are “The Hunter” by Tana French, “Good Half Gone” by Tarryn Fisher, and “Leave No Trace” by A.J. Landau.

Tom Hanks is the author of “The Making Of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece.” This novel is a “page-turning inside look at show business and moviemaking, an insightful reflection on the changes in America over the past eighty years, and a lovely window into the world we all share.”
