We have four non-fiction books available this week. “Rulebreaker: The Life and Times of Barbara Walters” by Susan Page is the biography of the most successful female broadcaster of all time. “Ties, Rails, and Telegraph Wires” by Dale Martin is the story of railroads and communities in Montana and the West. “The Demon of Unrest” by Erik Larson is the account of the chaotic months between Lincoln’s election and the Confederacy’s shelling of Sumter. “The New Menopause: Navigating Your Path Through Hormonal Change with Purpose, Power, and Facts” by Mary Claire Haver, MD fills a gaping hole in menopause care. This book will provide everything a woman needs to know to thrive during her hormonal transition and beyond, as well as the tools to help her take charge of her health at this pivotal life stage.
New fiction this week includes books by some of our patron’s favorite authors. “Only the Brave” by Danielle Steel is a powerful, sweeping historical novel about a courageous woman in World War II Germany. “Pay Dirt” by Sara Paretsky is a V.I. Warshawski novel. “A Calamity of Souls” by David Baldacci is set in the tumultuous year of 1968 in Southern Virginia. A racially charged murder case sets a duo of white and Black lawyers against a deeply unfair system as they work to defend their wrongfully accused Black defendants. “The 24th Hour” by James Patterson is the latest Women’s Murder Club novel.
All regular children’s programs, except Story Time, have concluded for the school year. Staff will be focusing on preparing for the Summer Reading Program for the remainder of May. We will have more information on the Summer Reading events next week.
