The library will be closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

Summer Reading programs continue weekly. Summer STEAM for elementary students meets on Mondays at 1 P.M. with science, technology, engineering, art and math activities. Storytime for little ones ages 0-5 and their parents/caregivers meets each Tuesday at 10 A.M. for a time of stories, activities and play. Lego Club calls all builders to come on Thursdays at 4 P.M.

All participants in summer reading are reminded to keep reading this month. Bring your reading logs to collect your gift certificate prizes and to be entered into the drawing for the grand prizes at the end of summer reading. Teens and adults are encouraged to notify the library for each book completed to be entered to win a $50 gift card at the conclusion of the program.

The Book Challenge for July is to read a book set in an intriguing city. Please let the library know if you have completed the June Book Challenge.

The Friends of the Harlem Public Library are hosting a community appreciation event July 24 from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. Come enjoy a free taco bar in front of the library!

Some services the library offers include faxing, scanning, interlibrary loans, photocopying, and notary services.

Each week the library displays the newest additions to the collection. These are in the front window and entryway display case. Stop by to see the new “reads!”

“Death on the Lusitania” is historical mystery by R.L. Graham. On board the luxury ocean liner is Patrick Gallagher, a civil servant in His Majesty’s government, who is escorting a British diplomat back to England. When a fellow passenger is believed to have shot himself in his cabin, the captain asks Gallagher to investigate. But the man’s body was discovered in a locked cabin with key inside and no gun to be found.

Danielle Steel’s new novel is “Only the Brave.” Sophia Alexander grows up in Berlin the daughter of a famous surgeon. She must care for her father and sister after her mother dies. As Hitler rises to power, Sophia becomes involved with the resistance and assists her sister and her husband escape from Germany. Her father, who also resists the regime, is sent to a concentration camp. Working as a nurse for the Sisters of Mercy, Sophia risks everything to transport Jewish children to safety.

Two new nonfiction selections are “Long Haul” by former FBI assistant director Frank Figliuzzi. This book covers the FBI investigation of a ‘hidden pattern of murders along U.S. roadways. They have now linked 850 deaths to long-haul truckers. The number is still rising.’ “Ageless Aging” is a woman’s guide to increasing healthspan, brainspan, and lifespan by Maddy Dychtwald.

Elly Griffiths is the author of the literary mystery “The Last Word.” The detective duo, Natalka and Edwin, investigate the death of local writer Melody Chambers. “Pay Dirt” is by Sara Paretsky. Detective V.I Warshawski is taking in a weekend of college basketball to recharge and watch one of her protegees, Angela. Sabrina, one of Angela’s roommates disappears. When V.I. finds her near death in a remote house, she lands herself in trouble with the FBI and faces online backlash. K.T. Nguyen has written “You Know What You Did.” In this ‘heart-pounding debut thriller, a first-generation Vietnamese American artist must confront nightmares past and present.’
