Perry Lynn Brown

Perry Lynn Brown, born on April 2, 1951, in Havre, Montana, passed away peacefully in his favorite chair on July 6, 2024. He was the son of Edgar "Buster" Brown and Rose Marie O'Brien and spent his younger childhood on the family ranch South of Big Sandy. As the eldest of seven children and the only son, Perry took on the responsibility of caring for his family after his father's passing when he became the man of the house at ten years old.

Perry attended high school in Judith Gap where he lived with Uncle Erling and Aunt Marietta, and later volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1971-72, earning a National Defense Service Medal for his service. He spent a big part of his life working on the railroad, a career that allowed him to see much of the country he loved so dearly.

For the majority of his life, Perry lived outside of Chinook, with his wife, Ruth, on the farm they built together. He was passionate about farming and ranching. He loved spending time with his family and telling stories. He was a lifelong learner, exploring various trades including becoming a boilermaker, welder, logger, and EMT.

Perry had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying activities such as hunting, fishing, and exploring the mountains. He also had a fondness for bowling, playing softball, and golf. Perry's warmth and humor made him beloved by all who knew him. Through his life travels he never met a stranger he didn't strike up a conversation with.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; his sisters, Marilou, Rosie, and Betty; his children, Kevin, Julie, Tammy, Buster, and Tom; and his grandchildren, Travis, Trever, Brendan, Liam, Quentin, Lilly, and Boston. He was especially dear to his oncology nurse, Patsy, whom he affectionately called "his angel."

Perry will be remembered for his big personality, his storytelling, and his ability to bring laughter to those around him. He will be dearly missed.

A public viewing was held at the Wilderness Funeral Home in Chinook on Wednesday, July 10th, from 7-8 pm. The funeral service took place at the Harlem Presbyterian Church on July 11th at 11 am, followed by a burial at Harlem Cemetery. A luncheon was held at the church following the burial.
