Robert Melvin Cross, 75, passed away on Sunday July 14, 2024 at his ranch in Chinook, Montana. A service was held at the Blaine County Fairgrounds Commercial building at 11:00 AM on Tuesday July 23, 2024 with a burial following at the Chinook Cemetery.
Bob was born on August 3, 1948, in Havre, MT and lived in Big Sandy, MT. In 1972, he married Pam (Zarn) and moved to Chinook. Throughout his life he worked various jobs around the farming community, various grain elevators, pole line construction, and retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad after 34 years of service. In 2020, he was able to live out his lifelong dream and purchased his own farm/ranch west of Chinook.
He could be found around town at his bowling league, sporting events and he never missed a rodeo when it came to town. One of his favorite past times was to come to town and have a drink with his farming and ranching friends at the Mint or the Pastime.
He is survived by his wife Pam and his children Brett (Theresa) Zarn, Bob (Beth) Cross, Donald (Debbie) Cross, Chandra McCafferty, and Dennis (Amber) Cross, his brother Ralph, sisters Bonnie (Lynn) Heggen, and Gloria Beck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin (Shorty) and Florence, brother Jim, and brother-in-law Leonard Beck. He had five grandchildren (Ashley, Joshua, Chelsea, Corbin, and Cash) and 4 great grandchildren.
