MSU–Northern to Host TekNoXpo & ShowCASE

On Thursday, October 10, students from across the Hi-Line will converge on Montana State University–Northern (MSUN). At various locations around the campus, TekNoXpo & ShowCASE events will be taking place. Check-in for the event begins at 8:00 a.m. and sessions start at 9:00 a.m.

Supporting the university’s motto, “An Education That Works,” TekNoXpo & ShowCASE are intended to introduce high school students to all that Northern has to offer in their various academic departments. Ranging from graphic design to diesel equipment operation and from interacting with livestock to even working with simulated humans in the nursing lab, this event promises to be very interactive, giving participants a first-hand look at the particulars involved in related job pathways. TekNoXpo is open to all high school students in grades 9-12.

Among the various tracks for students to choose from based on their individual interest in programs for their futures include

• Track 1: Manufacturing and Engineering

• Tract 2: Agriculture and Business

• Track 3: Welding, Plumbing and Electrical

• Track 4: Diesel and Automotive

• Track 5: Nursing and Health Science

• Track 6: Theatre and Humanities

• Track 7: Graphic Design and Marketing

• Track 8: Criminal Justice

• Track 9: Chemistry and Biology

• Track 10: Education and 3D Printing

With each session lasting one hour, students will select three of these tracks and move through them in a rotating manner according to a schedule. Following this rotation schedule, lunch will be served at approximately 12:30 p.m.

According to Jessica Fagerbakke, Director of Recruiting at MSUN, students will get the most out of TekNoXpo by diving into the workshops, as they provide practical experience and a deeper understanding of the fields.

“The real value is gaining knowledge and insights about potential careers. We encourage questions about the college programs and degrees available to set them up for the career they desire,” Fagerbakke said. “Some of our industry partners assist with TekNoXpo, so this also provides an opportunity to ask questions and to network with industry leaders.”
