Wildcats in Belt showcase indomitable spirit

This weekend Wildcats ventured into the undefeated Belt Huskies’ territory hoping to break their winning streak season. The Harlem Wildcats have not had the best season, but this doesn’t stop the players from being anything less than great.

The game kicked off with the Wildcats being taken down by the Huskies in tackles. After a possession change, the Huskies made their first touchdown with a successful 1-point conversion. Kelly, Better, and Morgan were determined to continue to get back up after each take down, which made for a powerful game. As the first quarter made its way to 7 minutes, the Huskies scored their second touchdown with a successful 2-point conversion, leading the game with 17-0. While the Wildcats tried to break the momentum of the Huskies, another touchdown was made, but a flag may have signaled a saving-grace for the Harlem based team. With the Huskies pushed back to the 29-yard line, they did indeed make for the endzone and bring the score up to 23-0 with a blocked 1-point conversion. With 3 touchdowns, 3 touchbacks, and the Wildcats third attempt at starting on the 15-yard line, Morgan was brought down behind the line. With the yard returns produced by the Huskies, it is understood why they are undefeated. At just under 3 minutes, the Huskies secure another touchdown with a successful 2-point conversion. Following with another touchback, Young received the ball at the 29-yard line. Unfortunately, the ball was turned over and, in a buzzer-beating feat, the Belt Huskies made strong headway with another touchdown, and successful 1-point conversion, leaving quarter one with a score of 38-0.

Second quarter began with a successful touchback from the Huskies and with just 11:55 on the clock, the Huskies scored their sixth touchdown with a secured 1-point conversion. In the face of this ferocious team, the Wildcats kept their determination. Morgan was sure to pass the ball successfully, and even after both teams made turnovers, the Wildcats kept at it. A fumble occurred in the Wildcats’ plays but was recovered by them. After an incomplete pass, and another fumble, the ball once again went to the Huskies. Sixteen seconds left in the quarter, and the Huskies brought their score to a soaring 51-0 with a blocked 1-point conversion by Young.

The Wildcats held their own in the third quarter. Kelly made sure that his passes weren’t going unnoticed. With neither team making any progress on the field, Kelly made an amazing attempt of a handful of passes although incomplete. Both teams moved into the final quarter with the scoreboard not changing for either side.

With quarter four beginning, the Wildcats Kelly had a good return, and Morgan pushing forward on the field. The Wildcats picked up the pace and with 10 minutes left on the clock, Morgan put the Wildcats on the board. Even with an unsuccessful two-point conversion, the Wildcats spirits were brought up and lit up the field. While the scoreboard may have lit up as 51-6, the Huskies weren’t finished yet. Only minutes after the Wildcats scored their first touchdown, the Huskies came back and scored yet another 6 points with a successful 2-point conversion, bringing the board up to 59-6. As the quarter came to an end, with the relentless Huskies, Kelly, Morgan, and Begay brought the ferocity with their team. As they domineered to maintain their returns and passes, the Huskies made their final touchdown accompanied by their successful 1-point conversion. After a well-fought game, the Wildcats were defeated by the undefeated Belt Huskies with a score 66-6. The Harlem Wildcats final football game will be November 2, in Choteau.
