Sound of Music Comes to Havre

Although Montana Actors' Theatre (MAT), with sponsorship from Gary and Leo's IGA, opened with a production of The Sound of Music this past weekend, there are additional opportunities to see the show on December 13-14 and December 19-21. at 7:30 p.m. The curtain will also rise for matinee performances on December 14 and 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the theatre on the campus of Montana State University-Northern.

Based on the book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, The Sound of Music traditionally features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and "The Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta Trapp.

These performances will highlight the familiar songs "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," and the title number. Earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars, The Sound of Music is a musical recognized by audiences worldwide.

Based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, the inspirational story follows Maria, played by Angela Pratt, who is a postulant from an Austrian abbey. As a form of discipline, Maria is ordered to serve as governess to the seven children of Captain von Trapp, a widowed naval captain. Maria's warmth and kindness quickly win over the children's affection, and Maria infuses the household with music and a new love of life. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
