Lady Tornadoes split weekend games at Class C Showcase

The Turner Tornadoes opened up their season at the Class C Showcase in Glasgow this past weekend. The Tornadoes took on the Dodson Coyotes on Friday and the Terry Terriers on Saturday. Turner coasted to an 80-31 victory over the Coyotes and lost a close contest to the Terriers, 40-36.

The Tornadoes opened up with a nail-biting first quarter, getting 11 points from junior Bridgette Reed. Senior Meridian Snider contributed seven points and sophomore Natalie Richman added a free throw to give the Tornadoes a 19-17 first quarter lead.

Finding their groove, the Tornadoes controlled the tempo the rest of the game. Reed continued to dominate, tallying 15 second quarter points, giving the Tornadoes a 46-20 lead going into the half-time locker room.

Turner kept their foot on the gas, getting eight more points from Reed, including going 2-2 from the free throw line. Sophomore Ali Doyle added six and senior Cassidy Grabofsky tossed in five, stretching the Tornadoes' lead to 69-29.

Reed added four more to her total in the fourth quarter, helping the Tornadoes secure their opening season win, 80-31 over the Coyotes.

Reed led the night with 38 points, Snider chipped in 12, and A. Doyle added 10. The Tornadoes went 5-6 from the charity stripe and launched five three pointers on the night.

On Saturday, the Tornadoes took on the Terry Terriers. Battling hard, the Tornadoes trailed the Terriers by three going into the halftime locker room, 18-15. Bridget Reed led the half with six points, and Cassidy Grabofsky dropped a three-point bomb. The Tornadoes continued to trail in the third quarter by six points, 27-21 going into the final quarter of the game. The Tornadoes rallied and won the final quarter 15-13, but were unable to secure the win, falling 40-36.

The Tornadoes were led on the night by C. Grabofsky tossing in three threes for 9 points. Reed contributed eight, and the Tornadoes went 6-12 from the line.

Turner's record moves to 1-1 to start the season, and they will head to Harlowtown where they will compete in another preseason tournament December 13-14.
