Turner Boys Split Opening Weekend at Class C Showcase

The Turner Tornadoes opened up their season at the Class C Showcase in Glasgow this past weekend. The Tornadoes took on the Dodson Coyotes on Friday and the Terry Terriers on Saturday. Turner earned a hard fought 70-60 victory over the Coyotes and lost a tough contest to the Terriers, 60-46.

The Tornadoes got off to a strong start in the opening quarter, controlling the lead over the Coyotes,15-10. Senior Carson Maloney tossed in six, and sophomore Ty Beck scored five, including one from distance. Keeping their lead in the second quarter, senior Caleb Zellmer scored seven, and Maloney added a three ball, extending the Tornadoes' lead to 35-28 entering the halftime locker room.

Coming out to start the third quarter, the Tornado attack was led by senior Tate Beck with seven points. C. Zellmer and Maloney each added six points, giving the Tornadoes a 59-43 lead entering the final quarter of the contest.

In the end, it was the Tornadoes that earned a 70-60 victory over the Coyotes.

Leading the Tornadoes on the night was Maloney with 21 points, including 2 three balls and going 5-6 from the charity stripe. C. Zellmer added 19 points and went 4-4 from the line.

Saturday, the Tornadoes took on the Terry Terriers. The Tornadoes started off strong when they took a two-point lead after one quarter of action, 17-15. Maloney and C. Zeller each contributed five points, and Tate Beck added four, including 2-3 from the free throw line. The Tornadoes were able to battle and hold onto their two-point lead after two quarters, leading 24-22.

While the Tornadoes continued to play hard, they were unable to keep up with the Terriers in the second half, falling 60-46.

The Tornadoes were led on the night by C. Zellmer with 15 points, including three deep balls from behind the arc. Tate Beck added 14 points and went 4-7 at the free throw line.

Turner's record moves to 1-1 to start the season, and they will head to Harlowtown where they will compete in another preseason tournament December 13-14.
