We've Got The County Covered

2nd Annual Blaine County Fur Fest a Success

The second annual Blaine County Fur Fest was held Friday December 6-Sunday December 8th. The Blaine County Fair Foundation holds this event to serve as a fundraiser for the foundation. This year they are raising money to do some much-needed repairs to the Grandstands. Years of wear and tear is taking its toll on the grandstands. The foundation plans to do repairs over the next few years as funds allow. They will be replacing the stairs on both sides, replacing the flooring, & numerous other updates in hopes to prolong the life of the grandstands. The event kicked off Friday night at the Blaine County Fairgrounds. North Chinook Boosters 4-H Club served a free will donation taco supper that was open to the public. People filled the commercial building Friday night to register for the hunt, participate raffle games, enjoy a good meal, & partake in the calcutta. This year they had 50 teams register. 19 registered in the Open Class, 25 registered in the Calling Class, & 6 registered in the Youth Division. There was a total of 155 hunters which was slightly up from last year.

Sunday brought everyone back to the fairgrounds for final check in. Although the weather wasn't favorable this year they still managed to bring in a total of 216 coyotes, 117 jackrabbits, 56 raccoons, 4 badgers, and 98 porcupines. Sunday was wrapped up with a meal prepared by the Blaine County Fair Foundation & an awards ceremony. There was a total of $17,703.76 paid out to the winning teams. During the evening, they also handed out many door prizes to participating hunters & drew names for the raffle items. Tuzz Langford was the winner for the custom build 6.0 creedmoor. Built by Mike Johnson & donated by Custom Collision Repair in memory of Dick Preputin.

The Blaine County Fair Foundation would like to thank everyone who helped to make this event a success. Thank you to the many local area business, farmers, ranchers, & community members who sponsored this event. Thank you to the hunters who showed up even though the weather wasn't the best. Thank you to all of the businesses that donated door prizes or raffle items, & thank you everyone who worked behind the scenes to make sure this event ran smoothly.
