The Turner Tornadoes were in Harlowton this past weekend to take part in one more preseason tournament before they start conference play. The Tornadoes took on the Harlowton Engineers on Friday and the Fergus Eagles JV on Saturday. Turner lost a close contest to the Engineers, 30-26, and bounced back the next day to earn a win against the Eagles, 48-35.
On Friday, the Tornadoes took on the Harlowton Engineers. In a low scoring game, the Tornadoes trailed the Engineers by eight going into the halftime locker room, 19-11. Natalie Richman led the half with four points, and Cassidy Grabofsky dropped a three-point bomb. The Tornadoes continued to trail in the third quarter by 10 points, 25-15 going into the final quarter of the game. The Tornadoes attacked the rim hard, outscoring the Engineers in the final quarter, 11-5, but unfortunately their valiant effort wasn't quite enough as they fell, 40-36.
The Tornadoes were led on the night by Richman with 11 points, while going 5-8 from the charity strip. Bridgette Reed added eight and C. Grabofsky, 5.
On Saturday, the Tornadoes were looking to bounce back from their loss Friday as they took on the Fergus Eagles JV. Down 8-6 after one quarter, the Tornadoes regrouped and came out strong in the second quarter. The Tornadoes' aggressive offense and shut down defense led them on a 16-0 run, not letting the Eagles score a single point in the second quarter, giving the Tornadoes the lead going into the halftime locker room, 22-8. Reed led the Tornadoes at the half with eight points while C. Grabofsky hit two from behind the arc for six points.
Keeping the momentum in their favor in the third quarter, the Tornadoes added 17 more points to their total while holding the Eagles to 12, extending their lead to 39-20 going into the final quarter of action. Ali Doyle chipped in six, and C. Grabofsky hit another three ball.
The Tornadoes slowed down a bit in the final quarter, getting outscored 15-9, but were able to keep their lead as they earned a 48-35 victory over the Fergus Eagles.
The Tornadoes were led on the night by Reed with 18 points, followed by C. Grabofsky with 13, including three from behind the arc. The Tornadoes will begin Conference play on Friday (December 20) as they take on the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks. The Tornadoes will take on the Big Sandy Pioneers in their first home game of the season the following night (December 21).
