Tornadoes Split Weekend - Fall to Harlowton; Beat White/Sulphur/Springs

The Turner Tornadoes were in Harlowton this past weekend. They took on the Harlowton Engineers and the White/Sulphur/Springs Hornets in their final preseason tournament before they begin conference play. The Tornadoes split the weekend, making their overall record 2-2. They took on the Engineers on Friday and the Hornets on Saturday.

In Friday's action against the Engineers, the Tornadoes got off to a fast start, leading the Engineers 20-9. Tate Beck and Roger Carrillo each scored six points to start the game. Turner was outscored in the second quarter, but was able to hold onto their lead at the half, 27-20. Tate Beck and Caleb Zellmer each knocked down three balls.

Momentum shifted in the third quarter and Turner was unable to get shots to fall, only scoring nine in the stanza, compared to Harlowton's 29. The Tornadoes matched the Engineers in the final quarter, point for point, but were unable to take back the lead, falling 65-52. C. Zellmer led the Tornadoes with 18 points, including going 7-8 from the free throw line. Tate Beck added 14 and Carson Maloney tallied 11.

On Saturday, the Tornadoes got off to a strong start in the opening quarter, controlling the lead over the Hornets,15-10. C. Zellmer scored seven points to start the game, while Maloney added six. Keeping their lead in the second quarter, Maloney added six more points to the team's total and Tate Beck launched a three ball and added 2 free throws for five points, extending the Tornadoes' lead to 34-23 entering the halftime locker room.

Coming out to start the third quarter, the Tornadoes' attack was led by [C. Zellmer who added eight more points to his tally, giving the Tornadoes a 19 point lead, a 49-30 lead entering the final quarter of the contest.

In the end, it was the Tornadoes that earned a 61-40 victory over the Hornets.

Leading the Tornadoes on the night was Maloney with 19 points, and going 3-3 from the charity stripe. C. Zellmer added 17 points and went 3-4 from the line, while Tate Beck chipped in 13.

Head Coach, Darci Ammen was pleased with how her team competed this weekend and is excited about the season. "The boys played well this weekend against some tall athletic kids. We were able to run some zone and man offense and defense in both games, which will help us in conference play. We play Chester and Big Sandy this upcoming weekend, which will be a good matchup for us!"

The Tornadoes will begin Conference play on Friday (December 20) as they take on the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks. The Tornadoes will take on the Big Sandy Pioneers in their first home game of the season the following night (December 21).
