We've Got The County Covered

Blaine County Library

Valentine’s Day isn’t the only reason love is in the February air— it’s also National Library Lover’s Month! The entire month of February is dedicated to celebrating libraries, librarians, book lovers and lovers of libraries. So why love your local library? Libraries are a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; they offer security and peace and quiet. They are also a place where you can focus surrounded by like-minded people with the desire to acquire knowledge. The library is a community gathering place filled with books, movies, newspapers, magazines, audio books, and lots of great ideas.

We encourage you to stop in this month and tell us why you Love Your Library! We will have drawings for door prizes at the end of the month. Elle will have a book display to celebrate Library Lover’s Month. February is also Black History Month, and we will have a display of books to celebrate that as well.

The library and the Blaine County Museum are collaborating on a Valentine’s Day Activity. Instead of a movie on Friday February 14th, we will have an activity that will begin at 1:00 p.m. We will have a short history of the holiday, then a crafting station where everyone can create their own Valentine’s card and a cookie decorating station, where everyone can decorate a heart cookie and then eat it!

We have gotten five movies in the last couple of weeks. Venom: The Last Dance, Here, Thelma, Transformer One and Conclave are available for checkout.

We have several books by New York Times bestselling authors. “The Big Empty” by Robert Crais is an Elvis Cole and Joe Pike novel. “Presumed Guilty” by Scott Turow is book 3 in the Presumed Innocent legal thriller series. “Beautiful Ugly” by Alice Feeney is a dark thriller about a marriage. “The Ministry of Time” by Kaline Bradley is a time travel romance, a spy thriller, a workplace comedy, and an ingenious exploration of the nature of power and the potential for love to change it all. This book was on multiple lists as one of the best books of 2024.

The next book club book is now available at the library for checkout and at the museum for purchase. “The Flood Girls” by Richard Fifield welcomes readers to Quinn, Montana, population: 956. A town where nearly all of the volunteer firemen are named Jim, where The Dirty Shame—the only bar in town—refuses to serve mixed drinks (too much work), where the locals hate the newcomers (then again, they hate the locals, too), and where the town softball team has never even come close to having a winning season. Until now. Rachel Flood has snuck back into town after leaving behind a trail of chaos nine years prior. She’s here to make amends, but nobody wants to hear it, especially her mother, Laverna. But with the help of a local boy named Jake and a little soul-searching, she just might make things right.
