The library will be closed Monday February 17th in observance of President’s Day.
The next book club book is now available at the library for checkout and at the museum for purchase. “The Flood Girls” by Richard Fifield welcomes readers to Quinn, Montana, population: 956. A town where nearly all the volunteer firemen are named Jim, where The Dirty Shame—the only bar in town—refuses to serve mixed drinks (too much work), where the locals hate the newcomers (then again, they hate the locals, too), and where the town softball team has never even come close to having a winning season. Until now. Rachel Flood has snuck back into town after leaving behind a trail of chaos nine years prior. She’s here to make amends, but nobody wants to hear it, especially her mother, Laverna. But with the help of a local boy named Jake and a little soul-searching, she just might make things right. This will be the final book for the winter. We will meet at the museum on Thursday February 27th at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the book.
The library and the Blaine County Museum are collaborating on a Valentine’s Day Activity. Instead of a movie on Friday February 14th, we will have an activity that will begin at 1:00 p.m. We will have a short history of the holiday, then a crafting station where everyone can create their own Valentine’s card and a cookie decorating station, where everyone can decorate a heart cookie and then eat it!
Valentine’s Day isn’t the only reason love is in the February air— it’s also National Library Lover’s Month! The entire month of February is dedicated to celebrating libraries, librarians, book lovers and lovers of libraries. So why love your local library? Libraries are a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; they offer security and peace and quiet. They are also a place where you can focus surrounded by like-minded people with the desire to acquire knowledge. The library is a community gathering place filled with books, movies, newspapers, magazines, audio books, and lots of great ideas.
We encourage you to stop in this month and tell us why you Love Your Library! We will have drawings for door prizes at the end of the month. Elle will have a book display to celebrate Library Lover’s Month. February is also Black History Month, and we will have a display of books to celebrate that as well.
We have several books from our patrons’ favorite authors. In “The Crash” by Freida McFadden,
Tegan is eight months pregnant, alone, and desperately wants to put her crumbling life in the rearview mirror. So, she hits the road, planning to stay with her brother until she can figure out her next move. But she doesn’t realize she’s heading straight into a blizzard, and the nightmare she’s running from is nothing compared to where she’s headed. “More or Less Maddy” by Lisa Genova is a breathless, riveting novel about a young woman diagnosed with bipolar disorder who rejects the stability and approval found in a traditionally “normal” life for a career in stand-up comedy. “The Stolen Queen” by Fiona Davis is an addictive novel that will transport you from New York City’s most glamorous party to the labyrinth streets of Cairo and back. “Onyx Storm” by Rebecca Yarros is book three in the Empyrean series.
