This past weekend, when basketball players from across Montana congregated in Billings, Carson Maloney, a senior at Turner High School, was among the athletes. Wearing number 21, Maloney was selected to play in the 2025 Billings Hotel Senior Classic. The games took place from Thursday, March 20 through Saturday, March 22 at Billings Senior High School.
Based on their statistics, seniors from across the state were nominated and then invited to attend the event. Because Maloney was also slated to travel to Portland, Oregon, over that same period for a Follow the Grain trip sponsored by Columbia Grain, he had a decision to make.
"It was a fifty-fifty type of decision and kind of hard since I wanted to do both. But in the end, I decided I can really do the grain trip later. The Senior Classic is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Besides, I was already missing basketball, so I thought, why not? This is not only an honor but one last hurrah," Maloney reported.
The tournament is frequently attended by coaches and scouts, making the event a potential showcase for talent. About that prospect, Maloney, who plans to attend MSU–Northern in the fall to major in diesel mechanics, stated: "I could potentially play ball in college if I receive an offer."
Maloney also commented positively on the opportunity to build networks. "It's always good to meet new people," he said.
The team representing North C was coached by Hardy O'Hara of Fort Benton and Timothy Rosette, Jr. from Box Elder. Maloney's teammates appear in the roster below.
In addition to the games, a Slam Dunk contest was held on Friday during halftime of the second semi-final, and a Three-Point Championship occurred during halftime of the first semi-final game.
