Bowhunter education in-person classes and field days for online students offered across central and eastern Montana

GLASGOW- Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks bowhunter education classes and field days for online students are being offered across central and eastern Montana. There will likely be more opportunities in some communities as well but consider getting in a course offered if you can.

In-person bowhunter education class starting:

Sidney: April 8

Havre: April 22

Saco: April 21

Glasgow: May 12 (this is part of a combo hunter ed course)

Bowhunter Education classes are taught by skilled volunteer instructors and offer hands-on learning experiences, mentoring opportunities, and the ability for students to ask questions of experienced bowhunters. Students must be at least 11-years old on the first day of class.

To find a classroom course and register, go to fwp.mt.gov/hunt/education/bowhunter and search for the in-person class listed. Students MUST be registered before the class begins. More information about the class, location, and other details will be on the registration page. Make sure to print, read and sign any necessary paperwork ahead of the class.

Bowhunter education field days for online students

Malta: March 29

Havre: April 26

Scobey: May 10

Glasgow: May 18

The field day for online students provides hands-on instruction and presents realistic scenarios in archery safety, bowhunting equipment, hunting ethics, landowner relations, and more.

Students NEED to take the online course before the field day. Consistent with FWP’s licensing laws, students who are currently 11 and who will turn 12 by Jan. 16 of the current license year may take the online course and attend the requisite field day. The online course (course fees apply) needs to be completed before signing up for a field day. The online course takes around 4-6 hours to complete. Adults 18 and older may take the field day to gain hands-on experience, though it is not required.

We strongly encourage students to register for a field day as soon as possible as opportunities are limited after Aug. 1 each year. Please note, if students take the online class later in the summer, there may not be another field day scheduled until spring the following year.

Students must be registered prior to attending a field day and bring their field day qualifier certificate to the field day. To find a class and register, or to take the online course, go to fwp.mt.gov/hunt/education/bowhunter . More information about the field day, location, and other details will be on the registration page. Make sure to print, read and sign any necessary paperwork ahead of the class.

If there are any questions, please contact hunter and bowhunter education coordinator Marc Kloker in Glasgow at 406-228-3704.
