Senior Center Hosts March Birthdays

Although a few snowflakes drifted about outside with temperatures hovering around 34 degrees at lunchtime, the Chinook Senior Center hosted a full house of celebrators on Friday, March 28. The large group had gathered to hear music, eat lunch, and wish happy birthday to several of those on the March Birthday List.

The party started at 11:30 p.m. with music provided by Roger Fischer, Brad Taylor, Sheri Miller, and Elaine Campbell. That talent showcase was followed by a baked potato bar lunch. Diners chose from either taco-based toppings or ham, broccoli, and cheese. A fruited cabbage salad featuring raisins and apples accompanied this entrée with yeast rolls served on the side. However, many considered dessert the "highlight" of the meal: a generous slice of angel food cake topped with strawberries, vanilla pudding, and whipped cream.

Center Manager, Ginger Hansen thanked everyone for coming, provided a short commentary about the Center's various personalities and activities, and drew people's attention to the daffodils decorating each table.

"Daffodils are a sign of hope and spring. They are also part of Shores Floral's Annual Daffodil Fundraiser. All of us have been touched by cancer in some way or another, so this is a good cause," Hansen explained. "If you haven't bought any yet, go get yourself some flowers."

Before the meal concluded, Hansen distributed gifts of honey and hand cream to those with March birthdays. The items were donated by Carla and Wade Anderson of Bears Paw Apiaries. "The Andersons are always such generous supporters of this community," Hansen stated. "So support them whenever you can."

She went on to say, "We have so many fun things happening here at the Center, so if you're not joining us, you're missing out! We are very grateful to be able to share all of these opportunities for food, fun, and fellowship with our community, friends, and neighbors."

Friendly banter and some heckling between pinochle competitors ensued. A pinochle card party was scheduled for 2:00 that afternoon.

To those unfamiliar, the Daffodil Fundraiser supports "Serving of Hope" in Havre. This is a local organization that helps families cover the costs of travel expenses when they are facing a serious medical condition. Seven dollars of each bunch of daffodils sold is donated to that organization.
